Driving across US border, criminal record check.

Postby nick » Mon Apr 26, 2010 4:51 am

Hey all

I'm wondering if US customs checks all people driving across the US border from Canada for a criminal record? Do they swipe the passport bar code? and if so, does that show a criminal record?

Any knowledge on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Lewis

I wouldn't worry about it...
Bar code won't show history of criminal behaviour, but they can do other checks.
If petty...don't worry ...if serious, check with embassy

US Customs always swipe the bar code (entering Canada they do not always do it..in fact in my experience they rarely do). Your passport is not encoded with that information. They will only get the criminal record info if they bring you inside and conduct further searches. Just don't look shifty and you should be OK.

Thank you for the responses. The hardest part will be not looking "shifty". :)
