I have a passion for latin dancing, films such as Dirty dancing, flash dance etc. Id really love to do a few months dance school though south america. Where is the best place to go etc?

My guess would be Brazil or Colombia. In Argentina (BsAs) there are no schools of particular interest or importance as far as I know, only for salsa and tango, but no samba etc.

Rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd ask here. I'll be landing in BA on Dec 8th and want to start taking Argentine tango and salsa lessons for about a month. I'd like to go as intensive as I can, meaning as many classes as I can squeeze in per week to get the most out of it. Niels, you sent me this website in a previous post and I looked over it, but had a hard time finding what I was looking for... My spanish is not that great; I have been studying on my own and can understand some, but not enough to really know what is going on there. Any recommendations for a single guy 23 looking for a good school(s)?
Also, will it be too difficult if I am lacking the language (that won't stop me of course )?

Learning REAL tango without speaking spanish will be exceptionally difficult; most serious teachers (leaving aside the tourist industry of course) are slightly reluctant anyway to admit foreigners into their classes, but since the whole dancing vocabulary largely consists of spanish terms, you'll have a hard time communicating with them. But since you're only going for a month you won't learn much anyway, so best to stick to the scene in the city centre, where there are plenty of courses frequented by foreigners.

I'd especially recommend the classes of Facundio in Torquato Tasso (defensa, San Telmo), which used to be on thursdays. But tangodata has a switch for English, so you shouldn't have any problem finding other venues yourself.

And to learn Salsa in Buenos Aires try "Azúcar". There is one in Abasto and another in Belgrano (neighbourhoods), they are great because you learn during the week and they open as a Disco on Saturdays.Hope it helped!

Hello! Thought I'd write on this thread, eventhough its a few years old!

I too am interested in heading to south america and apart from seeing the country would love to stop somewhere (or some places) for a short while and learn to dance - latin style!! Tango, salso, samba

If there are any additions to the info already provided or ideas that could inspire me as how to combine dancing with the travelling - it would be much appreciated!

There are many salsa clubs all across south america in brazil, cuba, argentina.

If you learn to salsa dance, it can really help you to get into better physical shape. If you're bored with traditional exercises, don't worry. -snip- is far from boring. You'll find yourself feeling healthier and stronger in no time, when you learn to salsa dance.

You need to check local directory of your area. You will find bunch of dance schools that provides dance lessons. I hope you will find it soon.
