Hi,
Do i need to get a visa sorted out before i visit Vietnam? I am hoping to visit Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia. I have read that i am fine to enter Thailand without a visa but i can find a definite answer for the other two? Any ideas?
Thanks

u can travel within Asian countries (Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia,...) without Visa. However, as I read from your profile that u are from UK, you definitely need a Visa to Asian before going through the others. For the visa, you can use visa code (from Embassy) or visa on approval (online). I suggest you order visa online as it will be much more convenient for you.
Ryan,
As posted elsewhere, Thailand will give you a free, 30 day entry permit if arriving via air, 15 days if you enter by a land border. Cambodia will sell you a visa, $20 for 30 days at the airport or the land crossings. VietNam is different. You must buy your visa before you hit their borders. If you are flying into VN, there is a 'visa on arrival' system set up by travel agents. I used this system April 08. I wrote about it in my blog. Phnom Penh is the cheapest, fastest place to buy your VN visa if you go via road. Good luck with your planning.

Hey VegasMike,
Can you just confirm....
Can i get a vietnam visa upon arrival (from these internet travel agencies) if i am going overland over the boarder. Its more than likely going to cambodia - Vietnam.
Failing this i will buy a visa from Phnom Penh. Do you purchase this directly from the Vietnam embassy?
Thanks in advance.
JD
The Vietnam visa on arrival is only if you are arriving in the country by plane, if you are planning on a land crossing from Cambodia you will need to have a visa organised before you get to the border.

My brother is Australian and he got his Vietnam visa in Phnom Penh after stupidly not even realising until a couple of days before heading to Cambodia that he required one for Vietnam! Personally when I went a couple of years ago I applied before I left Australia.
Hi all,
I applied my Vietnam-Visa by E-Visa4Vietnam on Monday and got my Approval Letter this morning. I paid with Paypal, It's very conveniently. It costed 17$ for service fee and I have to pay 25$ for my visa on my arrival.
Ryan,
It is not worth your time/effort to deal with the VN Embassy yourself. Almost all hotels/guesthouses will obtain your VN visa for you once in Phom Penh. I use Lucky-Lucky Motorvcycle Rentals. Fast, fair, reliable. I have a photo of their shop in my gallery:
Cambodia, page 1.
Send me a PM if you have questions.
