Volunteering in Asia - stay away from WLS

Postby Brelki » Wed Apr 28, 2010 4:16 am

Having just returned from Volunteering a month in Asia I thought it was best to warn anyone who is keen to volunteer abroad to stay away from WLS.

The website looks great and says you will do lots of great things but they do not happen. For expample I was promised a 2 day trip (became half a day) and a language lessons (it was half an hour)

When I complained to WLS they simply abused me, saying I am rude and that basically it is not their problem anymore. At no point did I feel supported by them, in fact their representative who was responsible for looking after me has now gone AWOL with some of my personal property. I have told them this and they do not care.

Please pick another one for your own sake. They were awful

Grace,
Thanks for your opinion. WLS may not be the best choice when looking for a place to volunteer while in SEA. I have friends in Phnom Penh that can always use another person to help out. No fees involved. They help orphans and poor families with housing, schooling, health care, etc.

Send me a PM if this sounds like something you might be interested in.

I volunteered with WLS in Cambodia and they are wonderful. The support was fantastic and I had a great time at the projects. Also WLS has very reasonable prices so thank you for a great experience. I had the time of my life and I very much recommend this program.

So the point is WLS exist, and complaining about it is clever marketing.
